About:
The Bandırma Ferry was built as a passenger and cargo ship at the “Mac. Intyre Paisley-Huston and Cardett” shipyard in Glasgow, England. It was sold to H. Psica Preus in Greece in 1883 and its name was changed to “Kymi”. It was sold to another Greek company named “Cap. Andereadis” by its last owner in 1890. It went bankrupt in 1891 and was brought to the surface in the same year. In 1894, it started to work for the Ottoman Maritime Lines, its name was changed to “Bandırma” and became a postal ferry to serve in the Marmara Sea.
On May 19, 1919, a historic mission began for the Bandırma Ferry. Republic of Turkey’s founder, Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK from Istanbul to Samsun, bringing order to start the Turkish War of Independence against the invaders. In 1925, it was torn as scrap in Istanbul Golden Horn.
